Ugandans have been warned against being misled by money and handouts distributed during the political season in exchange for votes. This call was made by Rev. Fr. Bruno Sserunkuma Byomuhangi, Director of Lay Apostolate Commission for Kabale Diocese, while representing Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, Bishop of Kabale Diocese at the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

Kyanamira Parish was officially inaugurated on Sunday, August 10, 2025, having been curved out of Rushoroza Cathedral Parish, and entrusted to the care of the Missionaries of Africa. The baby Parish (4 months old) continues to mobilize resources for its development.

During his homily, Rev. Fr. Bruno Byomuhangi reminded the faithful that what they were witnessing was history in the making; an infant parish full of vibrancy, well organized, and determined. He urged Christians to see generosity as a shared responsibility in building God’s house for present and future generations.

He also warned Christians against being misled by money given out during the political season in exchange for votes. He stressed that the future of leadership is far more valuable than the small amounts often offered to influence voters.

Fr. Serunkuma encouraged the faithful to vote for capable and responsible leaders who will serve the people diligently, rather than those who rely on handouts. He also called for peace and discipline on polling day, urging Christians to avoid violence and any form of riotous behaviour.

Dr. Aheisibwe Hillary, the Chairperson of BAAF steering committee for Kyanamira Parish and senior gynaecologist appreciated all the people of good will for their generous contributions which saw a total of 81 million shillings raised, aimed at the completion of the Church building.

With profound gratitude and deep humility, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to each one of you for the tremendous support. You gave generously through WhatsApp group and your Hiikas, you sacrificed your time to attend physically, and above all you carried this mission in prayer – Dr. Aheisibwe Hilary.

He also thanked the Parish administration led by Parish Priest Fr. Charles Nikiema, Parish Council led by Mr. Arigye Odo, Guest of Honor, catechists, Small Christian Communities, business community, and civil leadership for working closely and in harmony to make BAAF successful.

In his remarks, Mr. Arigye Odo, Chairman Kyanamira Parish Council thanked Fr. Bruno Byomuhangi who represented the Bishop and main celebrant. He appreciated the efforts of Parish priest and his team together with Parish Council and parishioners of Kyanamira in developing their parish. He said the BAAF 2025 is aimed at completing the church building (structural works), electrical installations, sanitation facilities, give the Church a full facelift among others.

Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, Member of Parliament for Ndorwa East where Kyanamira Parish is situated also praised the Parish for its strong faith, unity and working together for progress. He called for peaceful and calm participation in the forthcoming general elections and appreciated the faithful for their usual support towards him.

Hon Catherine Ndamira, the Woman MP for Kabale District who was represented at the function by her husband Eng. Didas Ndamira appreciated the strong coordination and leadership and coordination in Kyanamira Parish. She also encouraged Christians and community members to participate in the forthcoming elections peacefully, calling on voters to maintain calm and unity on January 15, 2026.

The Guest of Honor, Mr. Levic Kagoro, the President of Lions Club Kabale, who also works with the Ministry of Water and Environment contributed UGX 5 million and 100 bags of cement toward the finishing of the Parish Church and further pledged a complete set of new choir uniforms, recognizing the vital role of liturgical music in worship. He encouraged Christians to live a life of service to God by supporting his work. He said that generosity toward God is the best way to live, and that God loves a cheerful giver, adding that those who give to God are never forsaken but continue to grow in peace, blessings, and financial stability.

He thanked the members of Kyanamira Parish leadership for vibrancy and hard work. He thanked them for inviting him as Guest of Honor and warned people against politics based on religion but that people should choose leaders based on merit and capability.

Rev. Fr. Charles Nikiema, the Parish Priest of Kyanamira Parish in his final remarks thanked all the Christians who contributed generously to was the successful BAAF. He thanked Mr. Levic Kagoro who accepted to officiate the BAAF function as guest of Honor and appreciated hia generous contribution. In a special way he thanked chairpersons and members of Small Christian Communities for working together with zeal to register success in BAAF collections. He encouraged them to always participate actively in the parish programs for the progress and development of their Parish.
