While preaching during Mass, Rev. Fr. Dr. Deusdedit Musinguzi, Parish priest of Rwanyena Parish said it was necessary to celebrate for “We are grateful for the gift of faith in the 60 years. Who are we to witness this celebration? We have been nourished by the Word of God, the sacraments we receive and we thank God for this gift.”
He preached about generosity which was exhibited by Abraham and Sarah who were old in age yet childless. He said Abraham was visited by three men who found him seated outside the tent and became generous to them by washing their feet a sign of welcome. Together with his wife Sarah, they prepared for them a great meal and sat with them as they ate. It was out of his generosity that God became generous to him and gave him a son whom he named Isaac meaning that when one becomes generous, one receives much in return.
Don’t be generous to the ones you know only. Abraham was generous to strangers but actually it was the angel of God. The generosity of Abraham and Isaac earned them the gift of a child in their old age. God has plans for each one, but you must cooperate with him. Ask yourself what plan does God have for me?? What plan do you have for yourself??? – Fr. Deusdedit Musinguzi
In the Gospel of Luke 10:38-42, Martha and Mary show different approaches to serving. Martha welcomed Jesus and is unsettled looking for what Jesus should eat. On the other hand Mary sits at the feet of Jesus and listens to his word. Martha complains to Jesus that Mary is not helping her with chores, but Jesus tells her to stop complaining because Mary had chosen to be with the master. This tells us that we should have time for Jesus in order to have our plans fulfilled. Jesus should teach us and advise us only when we grant him an opportunity to come into our lives.
