Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province Social Communicators (MEPSCO) have elected new office bearers for the next three years. MEPSCO is a group of Diocesan Social Communications Directors and Catholic Media Houses in the Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province which comprises of Fort Portal Diocese, Hoima Diocese, Kabale Diocese, Kasese Diocese and Mbarara Archdiocese.

In their annual meeting which was held yesterday in Rushoroza Pastoral Centre in Kabale Diocese,  MEPSCO members elected Rev. Fr. Fidelis Betungura, the assistant Director of Radio Maria Uganda – Mbarara as the Chairperson, Mr. Salvino Mubangizi, the Director for Social Communications Kabale Diocese was elected as the vice Chairperson, Sr. Euniah Moraa Onduso  from Jubilee Radio in Fort Portal Diocese was elected as the General Secretary while Fr. Museveni Patrick, the Director of Radio Maria Uganda – Hoima and Director of Social Communications Hoima Diocese  was chosen as the Assistant Secretary. Sr. Sarah Muhindo from Kasese Guide Radio and Social Communications Kasese Diocese was elected as the Treasurer for MEPSCO.

On behalf of the new Executive, the newly elected chairperson, Fr Fidelis Betungura called on all the Catholic Media Practitioners in the whole ecclesiastical Province to work as a team since the ultimate goal was the same; Evangelization. he also called on the media houses to embrace digital methods of evangelization for example online publication of newsletters, embracing multimedia, having updated websites and sharing different news briefs with different media houses.

Among the functions of MEPSCO include promotion of evangelization through Social Communication, Preparing the Communications Week if celebrated in one of the Dioceses within the Ecclesiastical Province, Prepare meetings and seminars for Catholic media houses thus bringing together the social communicators as a province, helping in writing project proposals.

It must be remembered that World Communications Day is celebrated in the Catholic Church on Ascension Sunday and this year, it will be celebrated for the 57th time on May 21 under the theme “Speaking with the Heart: the Truth in Love” (Eph4:15).
