Karoli Lwanga Institute of Heath Sciences – Nyakibale is found in Nyakibale Parish in Rukungiri District. It was established in 1971 by the Franciscan Sisters of Breda, Holland as Karoli Lwanga School of Nursing with only 12 students who were nurses.
Originally the school offered training for Enrolled Nurses who served in Nyakibale Hospital, the mother institution. Progressively the School expanded its training services to Hospitals in the region and smaller non-governmental units.
