The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, has urged Christians to embrace the reality of the resurrection, emphasizing that the empty tomb stands as the central proof that Jesus Christ conquered death and is truly alive.
While giving the homily on Easter Sunday at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral, Bishop Rubaramira noted that resurrection is not merely a historical event, but a powerful reminder of God’s victory over sin and death, offering believers renewed hope and purpose. He explained that the empty tomb signifies that Jesus is not among the dead, but lives on, calling Christians to deepen their faith.

He noted that the reliability of Scripture is affirmed through the resurrection, citing the moment when the beloved disciple believed upon seeing the empty tomb and the linens in which the body of Jesus had been wrapped. According to the Bishop, this fulfilled what had been foretold, even though the disciples initially struggled to comprehend it.
Bishop Rubaramira further reflected on the transformation of the disciples, who moved from fear, confusion and despair to faith and joy after witnessing the resurrection. He said this transformation should inspire Christians today to trust in God even in moments of doubt and uncertainty.
Drawing from the example of Mary Magdalene, Bishop Rubaramira highlighted the importance of witnessing for Christ. He said her discovery of the empty tomb and decision to share the news with the Apostles underscores the responsibility of every Christian to testify about the risen Lord.
He also cautioned Christians against engaging in personal wrangles, noting that such behavior contradicts the love Jesus Christ demonstrated through His death and resurrection. He expressed concern that many believers fail to forgive one another even over minor disagreements, which goes against God’s teachings.
The Bishop emphasized that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a call for believers to become witnesses of love and unity. He added that a lack of love among Christians is a betrayal of God’s commandment.

He further observed that there are some Christians who avoid visiting their neighbors in Small Christian Communities for prayers like rosary due to personal grudges. He urged the faithful to let go of vendettas, forgive one another, and reflect the love of Christ in their daily lives.
Bishop Rubaramira also warned against excessive alcohol consumption and smoking, describing them as harmful habits that weaken the body’s immunity and called on Christians engaging in such practices to desist from them and dedicate themselves to the service of the Lord.
In his remarks, Rev. Fr. Austen Christmas, the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral made an appeal to the public to stop littering, describing it as hazardous to the environment. Fr Austen expressed concern over the increasing habit of dumping polythene bags and plastic bottles indiscriminately, even around places of worship, calling the practice irresponsible and contrary to biblical teachings. He urged Christians to take personal responsibility in protecting and conserving the environment for the benefit of the generations to come.
