Christians have been called upon to live a life of prayer, fasting and almsgiving throughout this Lenten Season. This call was made by Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, Bishop of Kabale Diocese while preaching on Ash Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral.

Bishop Callist Rubaramira explained the significance of prayer in the life of every Christian which should not be superficial but from the heart. Lent should be a time for intense prayer, renewing relationship between man and God and between man and his fellow man, forgiving the wrongs done.

Bishop Callist Rubaramira said that lent should be a time when people should draw closer to God, and urged Catholics to spare some time and visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Those of you who have a chance of being in areas where there is the Blessed Sacrament, spare some time, even if it is 20 or 30 minutes in front of the Blessed Sacrament as you spend time with your friend. Those who do not have this chance, go to your room and tell Jesus what you wish he should hear – Bishop Callist Rubaramira.

Besides prayer, there are other two pillars of lent namely, fasting and almsgiving. Catholics and encouraged to practice fasting and that which they have foregone should be given to the people in need.

At Christ the King Parish Kabale, Fr. Mathias Kwehangana, the Vice Rector of St. Charles Lwanga Seminary Nyakibale also called upon Catholics to desist from Social Media addiction and embrace living a Prayerful life in this Lent Season since everything in this World is Renewed through the Power of Prayer.

When we stop praying we start Perishing but nowadays social media platforms especially TikTok which publishes entertaining content all the time has left people with no time for Prayers – Fr. Mathias Kwehangana.

He encouraged Christians to embrace prayer and pray for the end of bad acts within our society such as alcoholism which has attacked many families to the extent of consuming funds given to them through Parish Development Model (PDM), Fr. Kwehangana said that PDM Funds given by the Government of the Republic of Uganda are meant to eradicate poverty among Ugandans. He also urged them to pray for peace in their families and country for rule of law to prevail.
